Course Description

Animation at DMU is for students who have a love for drawing and want to see their artwork and characters come to life. We encourage you to be innovative, creative and push the boundaries of storytelling and artistic style. You will gain a sound grounding as a generalist with the opportunity to develop more specialist skills from second year, as well as to develop new intellectual property and set new trends. Our supportive and collaborative studio culture nurtures a friendly atmosphere that aims to encourage professional attitude and development. Teaching is delivered primarily through demonstration and practical workshop sessions, providing hands-on experience in drawing, script writing, idea generation, visual communication, pre-production, audio production and digital 2D animation practice. Tutorials aim to provide personal feedback and are a framework for ensuring students see improvements in their work. Formative assessments include screenings of work, peer discussions and tutor led critique. Students will be briefed and supported to produce festival-ready animation, build an online presence and create an industry standard showreel.

Intake
